Parry: Defend and Attack

When a straight lead left punch comes in front of you use your right lead hand to give a diagonal downward parry and then a left rear jab to the jaw or nose.  The palm of your hand better hit the attackers hand or forearm before it is fully extended.

Open hand to the neck

This technique can only be used against the neck because it's a open hand attack`with the side of your hand.  To start you first bring your open hand up to the side of your shoulder then bring palm down while bringing hand sideways and your hand should be face down just before striking the neck.  Imagine someone next to you sitting and they throw a punch and you block it with your horizontal forearm that's next to the side of your head then perform the technique.

Another way to deliver a open hand strike to the neck is to have your flat hand facing palm up on the way to your target.

Jeet Kune Do: Fitness #4: Upper Body

With this set, i usually practice random fist and open hand techniques but you can also practice trapping, throws and sweeps.

Face up leg raises: First lay down on your back with your body straight, put your hands flat under your butt then raise your legs up then bring them back down with feet together don't forget to exhale. This is for the waist.

Reverse Curl: First hold a dumbbell then rest your forearm on your leg palm down then bring hand up then back down and repeat.  Your top forearm muscles should get the workout.  Exhale on the way up.

Sit-up Twist: Lay on your back knees up with your legs apart and feet still touching the floor, lift your upper body and before you get straight up turn your upper body either left or right then come back down and repeat.  Exhale on the way up. This is for your ads.

Jeet Kune do: Fitness #1: Lower Body

Here's the first set of exercises, i use. This is the first of two lower body exercises that, i use to condition myself to practice kicks. I usually practice round-house and straight-kicks. I have a set of exercises for each day of the week.

Jump rope: You know how this is done...i know it's for cardio which is burning fat but, i believe it also helps your balance.

Bend over stretch: This is done by keeping your legs straight and bending at the waist and exhale a little on your way down.

Cat stretch: While your still in the bend over position bring your hands forward in front of your feet touching the floor then bring your jaw to your chest your legs and feet should still be in the same positions.  After doing that for a few seconds come down into a push up position, rest your legs, push up and stay their then bend your back a little then bring your head back looking up.

Jumping jacks: All you need to do is bring your feet together then give a small hop to separate them then another one to bring them back and repeat.  When your feet separate your hands come out from the side and up over your........

Head Strike Defense

The defense is done by leaning your upper body backwards while sliding your rear foot back so you will not fall.  You perform this with speed bringing both your upper body and rear foot back at the same time.  This is done when the target is your head.  You should also try this by taking a quick step or two backwards.

A Chance to Exercise

Walking: Whenever your in a building and you have some time take the stairs instead of the elevator.  When you get to a place by vehicle park somewhere that will allow you to have close to a minute walk.

Balance: Whenever your at home and your doing something like using the mirror, putting on close or washing something stand on one foot while doing that.

Awareness: If your at home with nothing to do and you don't want to exercise to hard practice countering techniques from an imaginary attacker.  You must do this while sitting, standing or lying down.

Sidestep Counter-attack 2

This counter comes against the same forward attack the rear-right-jab you may say, i've done this already but one technique can have many defenses against it.  Once again you sidestep to the left with left foot taking a small step then the right follows immediately with a quick slide.  After doing this you deliver a rear-hook punch to the jaw then use left leg and deliver a toe-kick to groin.

Sidestep Counter-attack 1

Sidestepping is a useful skill when someone attacks by moving straight forward towards you.  This first counter happens when a rear-right-jab comes sidestep it to your left and deliver a rear-left-jab to the jaw.

Jab Defense 2

This defense is a quick one you simply bring your open hand straight up going either left or right slapping your attackers fist off it's target.  If your sitting and the punch comes from the side you can bring hand up from a face down position and backhand the punch.  It's also good to move your head in the opposite direction when you knock the fist aside for example your left hand goes right your head then goes left.

Jab Defense 1

This first defense is done by doing what, i call a side-lean which is done by leaning your upper-body to either side using speed.  Whatever side you lean towards that hand should come to the other side of your jaw or to the front to protect.  To avoid the punch perfectly practice the move while the attackers arm is still bent when he throws.  I believe it's best to lean towards the shoulder of the punch so you won't get hit by the other hand so go to the outside which is the side of the shoulder.

One thing you can do is combine this defense with a sidestep to further get to the outside just to be safe. Both moves must be done at the same time to save time.

Hook Punch Defense 2

This defense works by bringing your forearm horizontal to the side of your face covering your cheek but not touching your head because power may still come through your arm.

The Street-Fighting Stance

The first thing is turn your head left or right, bring rear fist up to the side of your jaw with other in front of your jaw and coming from the side of your shoulder.  The fist in front should be moving back and forward a little to be ready to strike.  Bring head down a little so it can be covered by your fist.

The next thing is your legs, they should be slightly bent with one foot in front of the other.  The front foot should be somewhere under your front arm and other somewhere under your rear.  The rear foot is pointing sideways and front is forward, both of them hopping a little off the floor one foot at a time so that you won't be flat footed and you'll be ready to move on them.

This is the position you want to be in when you practice striking or footwork.  This form is the truth, it does not come from any style and any or all techniques can work easily from there.

Hook Punch Defense 1

This first defense is done by ducking down in a circular form which will cause the punch to fly over your upper back.  You perform this by first bringing the head down at the same time as your torso and making a circular movement and coming back to where you started.  When you duck down under the hook you can possibly catch a knee-strike so when you duck cover your face with your forearms.  It's also good to use the defense while stepping back because the attacker may throw more punches.

Bear-hug Defense 3

The first defense comes when your grabbed from the back you want to shoot your elbow straight back and let your waist move at the same time for full power.  When grabbed from the side deliver a hard sideways elbow which should strike your attacker in the stomach.  Your forearm should come past your stomach to perform this elbow.

All elbow-strikes must come immediately when arms come around you so you won't get trapped.

Bear-hug Defense 2

The first defense is a simple back-kick to the shin or knee, once the grab happens from the back you lift a foot up and give a hard kick.  The second is a stomp-kick to the lowest part of the shin right over the opening of the shoe. A stomp-kick to the toe of the shoe can possibly work but it's risky the shoe may have enough cushion to absorb the blow.

When grabbed from the side you can deliver a stomp or front-stomp-kick to the leg in front of you hitting the knee or shin. If your grabbed from the front immediately use the stomp to the shin, knee to the thigh or hard knee to the groin.  If your picked up you can still try the stomp or knee strike.  Try to put up to 2 defenses in a combination and practice against anyone of any size.

Bear-hug Defense 1

The first defense is the most simple which is using the headbutt when your grabbed from the front, side or the back and your arms are trapped.  A front grab can be defended by using a quick jabbing headbutt to the face smashing the nose.

When the grab comes from the side you can do a simple sideways headbutt giving a snapping or a throwing strike hitting the attacker with the top or side of the head.  A back grab can be stopped by a backwards headbutt and make sure people you know well don't attack you like this.

Triangle Choke Defense

There are three street-fighting ways to defend against this technique when your caught in it and the first is to bite the thigh because your head will be stuck between his legs.  The second defense is punches to the groin a lot of people when caught in it get their head and one arm stuck but you still have one free hand.  The third is to throw some hard knees and combine them with hard punches.  The greatest defense, i learned from Bruce Lee is to be aware to avoid being harmed in the first place.

Focus Mitt Accuracy

Focus-mitts are perfect for speed and also accuracy but because of their small size and how you use them theirs only a few techniques that you can use. The techniques that, I recommend are all punches, elbow strikes, and knees. When it comes to kicks the best you can use are the roundhouse and toe-kick but with more speed than power to avoid hurting that person holding them.

Groin Kick Technique

The first thing is stick your hip forward then lift your knee up then the rest of the leg comes up with a quick snap.  This technique should be practiced on partners who have different height.

My Punching Bag

The first thing your going to need is a few plastic bags put them all in one with the hoops sticking out.  You need two shoe strings tie those together and leave the other ends free.  Stuff the bags with some old cloths or towels.  All you need now is somewhere to hang it maybe the closet.

Take a Bite out of Crime

Whatever position your in where you can't hit your opponent but you can reach them with your teeth just bite them. When your training you want to practice countering attacks that your opponent would do after you bite. An example would be if you were on one knee in a rear-choke you want to bite the closest part of the arm.

Artificial Attack

If their is anything light with weight on it like a piece of wood from a chair or a rock something that you think can hurt an attacker pick it up and use it if you feel it's necessary.

Trap arms

If your arms are being held behind you and the person holding you is close you can headbutt backwards and kick back to the legs while trying to get loose.  If your arms are tied together and you have to fight the only things you can do are kick the legs with straight-kicks, sidekicks and also kick to the groin while bobbing, weaving and using footwork.  If only your hands are tied than you can swing left, right and do upward and hammering strikes with your fists.  Now don't forget to block your head with your forearms.
